Your grandchildren will certainly be stylish for their first day of school

A little bit fancy but still super-playful, this vintage-inspired Fanny Bib Day Dress from Baby Bean will make your granddaughter the biggest fashion plate on the playground.

Available at: Babybeanwear.com

Not only is this wide-necked, hand-knit sweater versatile enough to wear in every season besides summer, the striped, nautical style of the Lucien Sweater works for both boys and girls. Available in aqua- and-off-white or brown-and-off-white.

Price: $66
Size for kindergartners: 6
Available at: Moderntots.com

Designer jeans like this are almost painfully stylish for a kindergarten boy, but the Straight Leg Dark Wash Jeans from Appaman are also rugged enough to withstand all his sandbox antics.

Price: $58
Sizes for kindergartners: 5 and 6
Available at: Lalaling.com

This bright and bold, fall-colored Rugby Striped Pique Polo shirt, pictured here in bright ginger-and-carob brown, will be a perfect match with any jeans your grandson owns.

Price: $16.50
Sizes for kindergartners: XS and S
Available at: Gap.com

A schoolgirl classic, this simple, pleated Girl's Uniform Jumper is available in blue, black, or khaki, any of which can be punched up with a bright blouse and tights.

Available at: Oldnavy.com

As the weather turns from warm to crisp, sometimes in the same day, these BabyLegs arm- and leg-warmers are a fun and easy way to add extra layers to your grandchild's fall clothes. As the name suggests, use them as baby leg warmers, but the stretchy, cotton fabric fits much bigger kids' limbs, as well. We like the Rainbow and Argyle styles, pictured here.

Price: $12
One size fits all

My oldest three grandsons make do with clothes from garage sales. There is no way I or their mother would pay those kind of prices for school clothes that they outgrow in less than a year.
