Warren Struhl
Co-Founder and Co-Chairman
After leaving the corporate world as vice president of JMB Realty Corporation, one of the largest real-estate companies in the United States, Warren Struhl has focused all his energy on entrepreneurial endeavors. He founded his first business, PaperDirect, Inc., in 1988 at the age of 25. After building this direct -marketing business to more than $100 million in sales, Warren sold the firm in 1993 to a Fortune 500 company. That year, he was named New Jersey Ernst & Young's Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Since 1993, Warren has started and/or nurtured more than ten companies, including White Cloud Consumer Products, Genesis Direct, Register.com, Awards.com, and most recently Dale and Thomas Popcorn, which has emerged as the fastest-growing snack-food company in the country. Warren has recently been featured in many news outlets, including Time, CNBC, and The Big Idea for his success with Dale and Thomas. Warren has authored several articles for Inc.com on starting up and recently was named by Yahoo/Inc. Magazine Entrepreneur of the Week.
In 2005, Warren engaged a small team to conduct market research and develop the concept for Grandparents.com. The products of this engagement went on to form the seed from which Grandparents.com continues to grow.
Eric Weisman
Co-Founder and Co-Chairman
Over his 23-year career as an executive in retail, marketing, and the entertainment industry, Eric Weisman's trademark has been the consistent introduction of creativity and innovation into whatever business he's managed. He is the founder and managing partner of Laser Partners, a lead investor in Grandparents.com.
Prior to forming Laser in October 2005, Eric served as CEO of the Musicland Group. Musicland was acquired from Best Buy in June 2003 by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners. Because of Eric's leadership and vision, he was recruited to guide the company through a tough turnaround.
Prior to becoming CEO of Musicland, Eric was president and CEO of Alliance Entertainment. There, his strategic and operational expertise helped transform the company from a struggling products distribution company in Chapter 11 into the leading solutions provider of business-to-business infrastructure services. From August 1998 to his departure in August 2003, annual gross sales grew from $275 million to more than $1 billion.
Eric began his career in 1985 at Premier Artists Services, an entertainment management company. As president of Premier, he strategically partnered with Young & Rubicam and Burson-Marsteller to form Corporate Entertainment Productions, together launching breakthrough entertainment marketing projects that matched the power of entertainment with the marketing needs of Fortune 500 corporate partners.
Jerry Shereshewsky
CEO
Jerry Shereshewsky may be the only marketing executive in the burgeoning digital technology field who's invented a new brand of soda pop. Then again, he has been associated with breakthrough marketing ideas in every phase of his distinguished career. In 1981, at the dawn of the modern computer era, Jerry ran the Atari account at ad agency Young & Rubicam. He rose to senior vice president, working on such accounts as General Foods, Frito-Lay, Johnson & Johnson, and Gillette.
As VP/marketing and special products at Bertelsmann Music Group, Jerry ran the company's sales promotion efforts and created one of BMG's first Web sites. During his tenure at direct-response giant Wunderman Worldwide, Jerry developed and launched Gevalia Kaffe for General Foods, the highly successful directly-marketed coffee brand. He even conceived and helped create a soft-drink brand, Mello Yello, for the Coca-Cola Company during a year in Atlanta. Jerry also served as a senior vice president at public-relations powerhouse Burson-Marsteller.
He helped make Yoyodyne the premier direct-marketing promotion company online and made it so attractive that Yahoo! bought it.
Prior to joining Grandparents.com, Jerry was ambassador plenipotentiary to Madison Avenue for Yahoo! where he managed the B2B marketing effort behind Yahoo's multi-billion-dollar media sales business.
He is on the board of directors of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and the advisory board for the AdCenter at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he received his degree in Russian History as well as serving on the dean's advisory board at the School of Business. Jerry lives in Purdys, N.Y., with his wife, Catherine, and two boxers (Bert & Ernie). He has two daughters, Beryl and Lexi.
David Brinker
Co-Founder and President / Chief Operating Officer
In his stewardship of Grandparents.com, David Brinker brings more than 12 years of business-development and business-affairs experience with a focus on digital media. Moreover, he brings significant operational and transactional experience at retail and online, including having successfully launched numerous digital and online businesses.
Most recently, David was a strategic consultant to many digital-media companies, including MTV, the Orchard and Amp'd Mobile. Previously, David was senior director of corporate development and business affairs for the Musicland Group. There he was responsible for developing and implementing the company's digital media and mobile-entertainment content strategies, as well as serving as a member of the retailer's strategic planning team.
Prior to joining Musicland, David was director of corporate development at Alliance Entertainment. At Alliance, he worked with the CEO and other executives to identify key market trends affecting Alliance's business units and formulate strategic-response recommendations.
In 1998, David co-founded Triage Entertainment, a successful independent record label. David started his career at EMI Records in 1995. There, he was involved in signing and developing artists including Prince, Five for Fighting, David Gray, and Marcy Playground, among others.
David is a cum laude graduate of Tufts University and a magna cum laude graduate of Fordham University School of Law.
Jeff Beil
Executive Director of Content and Programming
As executive director of content for Grandparents.com, Jeff Beil is responsible for the editorial direction and content management of the site.
Jeff joined Grandparents.com as its second employee in early 2006 and was key in developing the overall concept, structure, and strategy for the site.
Prior to joining Grandparents.com, he directed new initiatives in content development, distribution, and marketing for multiple projects in the entertainment industry.
Most recently, Jeff applied his specialization in interactive media to ODVD, where he developed integrated content to highlight the groundbreaking gameplay dynamics of the DVD game Shout About Movies. Before the game's launch, Jeff started the research division at ODVD, where he designed testing instruments for observation, recording, and implementation of feedback from focus groups and professional play-testers.
Prior to ODVD, Jeff was director of marketing at Medalist Entertainment, where he was responsible for online and grassroots marketing for the label’s touring artists.
Jeff was also the producer of the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical I Sing!, which is now performed by national touring companies. He was also the producer of No Limit, a documentary following the trials faced by amateur poker players trying to play their way to the World Series of Poker.
In all his work, Jeff continues to draw upon the invaluable advice he received from his own grandfather: "Be content!"
Shelly Lipton
Chief Marketing Officer
Shelly Lipton brings his expertise in advertising, direct marketing, public relations, sales promotion, and experiential marketing to Grandparents.com. His mastery of the full marketing mix enables him to strategically conceive, develop, and manage business concepts that integrate the right mix of marketing communications for maximum impact. Currently, Lipton is responsible for directing the consumer- and trade-marketing efforts for the company.
Lipton honed his integrated marketing skills early on where as a vice president at Young & Rubicam (Y&R) he served on a special integrated marketing task force, working with Wunderman, Y&R’s direct-marketing arm and Burson-Marsteller, the agency’s public relations division.
After nearly a decade in the corporate world, Lipton founded LCG Inc. to develop integrated direct-marketing and community-based initiatives targeting the U.S. Hispanic market. LCG attracted marquee clients; within 10 years was acquired by Publicis Groupe to form Bienestar LCG Communications.
Under his leadership, Bienestar LCG received the 2000 Recognizing Excellence Awards for a Pfizer-relationship marketing program. Lipton also received the Crystal Prism Award from the American Advertising Federation for his contribution to social-marketing efforts, and the Direct Marketing Association’s DIRECTO Council for Hispanic Marketing awarded Lipton its first Hispanic Marketing Professional of the Year award in 2002.
Prior to joining the leadership team at Grandparents.com, Lipton was founder and president of Community Direct Inc., a strategic direct-marketing company, which fused the precision and accountability of direct marketing with geo-targeted community outreach.
Lipton devotes time to family and philanthropic efforts for several charitable organizations, including Camp Sunshine, which supports children with life- threatening illnesses and their families. Recently, he guided his teenage daughter in launching Second Chance Toys (www.secondchancetoys.org), a community-based program she founded which rescues and recycles used plastic toys, redistributing them to community-based organizations supporting disadvantaged children.
